Someone once mentioned that when they increased the amount of daily zazen, the extra sitting became somewhat unpleasant and didn’t seem good. Zazen is such a good practice, that it seems like more should be better, but to regard zazen as our only practice or our primary practice may not be beneficial. Everything we do should be our practice: sitting, standing, preparing meals, eating, driving our car, listening to music, sweeping the floor.

Joshu Sasaki roshi once said that the zendo is like a bathroom. To go there regularly is normal, but wanting to live there would be perverted. In addition to sitting, we should go out into the world and give ourselves COMPLETELY to everything arising from moment to moment.
